PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To prepare and present lectures in his/her field of specialization and to attend to the administrative tasks of the Department and the Institute.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Deliver theoretical and practical training in:
- Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
- Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than fast Rescue Boats (PISC)
- Conduct drills, demonstrations, and hands-on practical exercises.
- Develop lesson plans, training materials, and assessment tools in line with STCW standards.
- Assess and evaluate student performance and maintain accurate training records.
- Ensure compliance with national maritime safety regulations.
- Maintain training equipment and ensure a safe learning environment.
- Participate in curriculum development and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support departmental administrative and quality assurance processes.
Required and Demonstrate competencies in:
- Personal Survival Techniques (PST)
- Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (PISC)
- Relevant seagoing experience.
- Strong communication and instructional skills.
- Computer literacy and the ability to prepare training materials and assessments.
- Sound knowledge of STCW Convention and maritime safety regulations.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.4
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High level of professionalism and integrity
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS;
- Holder of a Class 5 Certificate of Competency (Marine Engineering or Marine Navigation).
- Valid Advanced Safety Certificates in accordance with STCW requirements.
- 2 years of Teaching / Vocational Instructor Qualification or a recognised trainer qualification or equivalent will be an added advantage.
- Valid Code 08 driver’s license.
